1.5 tons of medicines from Scotland to Gaza are now a few metres outside the gate into Gaza at Rafah on the Egyptian side of the Israeli-built wall that has enclosed the peopleof this area, mainly refugees, for decades.

The Egyptian authorities in Rafah are refusing entry of the medicines to Gaza and are now demanding that Khalil and Linda drive the van away from their destination towards El Arish. They are threatening to load the van onto a truck and impound van and medicines.

Khalil and Linda, who have overcome may obstacles on the road from Scotland to Rafah to deliver these medicines, are refusing to drive the medicines away from the gate through the Wall into Rafah.

A projected five-day journey has turned into ten days : earlier, they were turned back by the Croatian authorities, and had to drive through Hungary, Rumania and Bulgaria to reach the Turkish border. There, they were initially refused entry and told to turn back, before the medicines were allowed to transit Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt to get to the people of Gaza.

Obviously this is a very modest gesture of our support for the people of Gaza, in the main a refugee people, who are suffering the grim results of a wholly man-made crisis. We must all redouble our efforts to end the shameful EU-wide support for Israel's brutal siege and wider policies of ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Les autorités égyptiennes à Rafah ont refusé l'entrée des médicaments à Gaza et demandent aujourd'hui que Khalil et Linda emmènent leur camionnette loin de leur destination, en direction d’El Arish.

Elles les menacent de charger la camionnette sur un camion et de la saisir avec les médicaments.

Khalil et Linda, qui ont surmonté de nombreux obstacles sur la route entre l'Écosse et Rafah pour amener ces médicaments, refusent de conduire les médicaments ailleurs qu’en passant par la porte dans le Mur pour entrer à Gaza.

Le voyage de 5 jours s’est transformé en un voyage de 10 jours puisqu’ils ont été refoulés par les autorités croates et ont dû traverser la Hongrie, la Roumanie et la Bulgarie pour atteindre la frontière turque.

Là, ils ont été initialement confrontés à un refus d’entrée avant d’obtenir l’autorisation de transporter les médicaments à travers la Turquie, la Syrie, la Jordanie et l'Égypte pour arriver jusqu’à la population de Gaza.

De toute évidence, il s'agit d'un geste très modeste pour montrer notre soutien à la population de Gaza, pour l'essentiel une population de réfugiés, qui subit les sombres conséquences d’une crise créée par l’homme.

Nous devons tous redoubler nos efforts pour mettre fin au large soutien de l’Union Européenne au siège cruel imposé par Israël et plus largement à sa politique de nettoyage ethnique du peuple palestinien
